Cue The Champagne | Chattanooga Wedding Advice : Who is Cutting The Cake ?
You have selected the most perfect cake that is nothing short of amazing since after all it only took you 40 pins on Pinterest and a bomb wedding cake designer later to create the perfect confectionery vision your heart has ever imagined. It arrived on time and everyone has been eyeing this beauty all night waiting to get a taste…………..especially grandma.
You and your new beau, look so picture perfect standing their co-noodling to get the traditional first bite of cake pose, you even lock arms and have a little sip of bubbly in your Tiffany Champagne flutes while all your friends and family are looking your way glaring thinking how sweet this moment is but what they are really wondering is oh how sweet that cake is going to be when they get their first bite!
But wait , the cake has been cut but no one is cutting the cake for everyone else !!! Is it self- serve, is the caterer going to come out and cut it, or YOU will be stuck serving your guests on your wedding day because this is one little detail you forgot about. Everyone is looking around and no one really knows what to do . Do not let this be your wedding day.
How to navigate this issue ?
- Find out if your baker returns to cut your cake . You can simply do this by asking, while it is not common some bakers in Chattanooga actually includes their return at the exact time your cake is scheduled to be cut and they will be their to ensure that your cake gets the exact number of servings they promised, by slicing your cake for you and packing up any leftover cake as well to be taken home.
- If your baker does not return, no worries. If you have hired a full service caterer, they will commonly manage your cake cutting for you. They will have experienced team members on their staff who will know how to properly cut a wedding cake (yes their is a process to do so) and serve all of your guests. This is something that you should specifically ask your caterer about. Sometimes it may be a fee but many offer it as a complimentary service.
- So what happens if you aren’t hiring a full service caterer. So your cater is only staying long enough to serve the food or perhaps your caterer is simply just dropping off the food and leaving and no one will be onsite to cut your wedding cake. You will need to ask a friend or family member in advance if they mind to be your cake cutter for the wedding cake. Cutting a cake can be challenging so you need to ask 2-3 people to help in the process. While one person cuts the cake, the other can help to prepare the next plate and the other to distribute the cake, their is always a line for cake! Tools that can get you through this task will be a hand towel ( cake can get quite messy and ordinary napkins just stick to the mess) , a warm cup of water ( will help to clean icing off the knife in between cuttings, a cake cutting knife set.
- If having your friends and family being put to work at your wedding doesn’t really create the vibe that you have in mind of a fun and relaxing time then also be sure to mention your concerns to your day of wedding coordination team. Here at Cue the Champagne Event Planning and Design, we have definitely cut our fair share of wedding cake because we just simply don’t believe our couples or their friends and family should be working at a time when there is celebrating to do !
We hope you enjoyed these cake cutting challenge tips !
