One of our favorite things about weddings is the incredible variety of desserts we are able to try, from cakes to cookies and everything in between! Our sweet tooth is always satisfied when we see Sweet Angel Cakes is a vendor! This month for Feature Friday, I was so excited to speak with Toni Repko, owner of Sweet Angel Cakes, and see what inspires these incredible sweet creations!
Q. When and Why did you start Sweet Angel Cakes?
A. I always made cakes as my mom didn’t enjoy baking. So at around age 7 I was the designated baker of the house. I guess it skipped a generation as my grandmother was also the “cake maker” of the family in her time. I had a 17 year career in management/Regional Trainer/Multi-Unit management and was newly married. When my latest position was eliminated, instead of going back to a position that would have me working nights and weekends we decided it was the right time to start our family. In order to make a little money on the side while raising our little ones, I started selling decorated cakes out of my house. When an opportunity to be the in-house wedding cake baker for the Read House was offered to me I couldn’t turn it down. That started my “Official and Licensed” wedding cake business back in 2007. A shared kitchen, shared store front in North Georgia and then to our current location in 2013 later, we have now become a cake shop that focuses on wedding and larger event cakes. I love what I do!!
Q. What is your favorite part of a wedding day?
A. My favorite part of the wedding day is when we deliver and set up the cake! We add florals and get to see the bride’s vision come to life….cake, décor, attire, we love to see all of it! I also love when we hear back from our brides after the big day! We have had brides contact us a day or two after their wedding to say how much they loved their cake. Makes my day!!
Q. What does the “ideal client” look like to you?
A. Although our ideal client is one who loves cake as much as we do, we can also accommodate those that just want a great tasting cake without all the bells and whistles. As much as we love to make the grand, gorgeous detailed wedding cakes, if that isn’t your thing and you just want a simple cake that tastes great, we got you covered and offer some budget friendly options.
