Although not everyone has fur babies, those who do know how important these furry family members can be. Sometimes our dogs or other animals help us push through the hard days and see a brighter light on the other side. They comfort us, play with us and make us smile when we feel like crying. Someone that important to you should obviously be included on your wedding day, right? When you’re thinking about having your furry friends be by your side for the big day, keep reading to see some information you should consider!
You will likely need a ‘dog-sitter’ for the day
Your wedding day is filled with so many vendors and details that you will not have time to worry about taking your dog for a walk or making sure your pet is fed. Unless you are having an at home wedding where your dog can freely roam until ceremony time, we would suggest that you hire a dog-sitter. Depending on your location, there may be a specific service professional for this and you can ask your wedding coordinator for suggestions. If there is not, see if you have a friend- or maybe a friend’s younger sibling- who your animal is comfortable with that could be on dog sitter duty. Always be sure you leave your animal with someone they know and are comfortable with.
Consider your animal’s temperament
Some dog breeds are more hyper and anxious around people while others are calm and unbothered by being surrounded by strangers. Before bringing your furry friend to your big day, think about how they will handle the stress of a new environment, surrounded by guests possibly with loud music blaring. If you think this would stress out your animal, consider some of the following creative ways to include them in spirit, if not in person.
Other ways to include your best bud
- When sending out your save the dates or wedding invitations, be sure to include either a photo or if you are artistic, maybe even a little doodle of your animal.
- Have your pups join you on your cake! No, not the real ones, but consider shopping small and having a hand crafted cake topper with your buddies included!
- Order a gift that represents your fluff nuggets. Personally, I ordered custom pup portrait cufflinks for my husband so we had our babies represented in our wedding photos.
- Include photos with decor or have pet treats as favors for other pet owners!
- Have a customized bar menu named after them!
No matter how your animal is represented, we know they are just happy to see you happy- we can see their tails wagging from here!
