Whether you chose to do a faux send off or a real one, nowadays something needs to be thrown or held in the air around you. While virtually anything would work, there are a few items used more traditionally. When deciding what item(s) to include for your send off, just remember to check your venue policies regarding prohibited items and/or activities on the premises. These items all have their pros and cons, so consider your options before you set your heart on anything specific.
Sparklers

These are arguably the most popular of the send off items. Though these often make for excellent photos, they can, and often do, prove to be a hazard. Prior to selecting sparklers as your send off item, we suggest you consider the presence of alcohol at your wedding and think through who you’ve invited. Are the vast majority of your guests responsible and mature adults? Would any of them, perhaps, over indulge if you have alcohol available? Oftentimes, alcohol and fire don’t complement one another.
Bubbles

One of the cutest and least hazardous send off items! Photos capture lights and reflections in each and every bubble and are fun and accessible for all ages. The best part is you won’t find anything stuck in your hair or clothes. In terms of cons, the worst outcome is a few guests spilling their bubbles and/or getting bubbles in their eyes. All things considered, that’s pretty mild.
Man-Made or Natural Items

Things that are literally made for throwing in the air like confetti will more than likely achieve the effect you’re looking for and look great in photos, night or day. Likewise, natural items, such as flower petals or bird seed, will add a natural element to your photos and, depending on where you’re doing your send off, may be good for the environment. The downside of these items is the clean up, potential environmental impact, and your collision with/collection of the items thrown. Clean up of items thrown inside or man-made items thrown outside can be time-consuming or costly. You should be cautious of choosing man-made items to throw if your send off will be outdoors, as non-biodegradable plastics and chemicals may adversely affect wildlife. Lastly, even when guests are directed to throw these items over the couple, they are often thrown at the couple. So we suggest thinking about the weight of these items (if they’ll hurt if thrown at you or have the potential to get in your eyes) and how likely they are to stick around (in your hair or clothes and if they have the potential to stain your clothes).
