Your Reflection
You and your fiancé’s wedding day is about your love for one another. An event centered around you and your partner means that all eyes will be on the two of you. Unfortunately, enjoying your wedding day under these conditions can feel quite difficult if you struggle with body-image issues, confidence, or self-love. How do you feel when you look in the mirror or at photos of yourself? In preparation for your wedding day and the rest of your lives together, we suggest that you take some time to practice radical self-acceptance.
In Preparation
Practicing radical self-acceptance aims to release you from comparing yourself to others or viewing yourself as you believe others will. There are loads of books, worksheets, and blogs that you can utilize, but if you have struggled with any form of self criticism for a prolonged period of time, pursuing therapy may be the best option for you. That is not to say that independently working towards self-acceptance is futile if you have struggled for a long time, as persistence is key! So prior to celebrating your wedding, take steps to become accepting of yourself as you are—not as you or others think you should be.

For Your Wedding Day
On the day of your wedding, or on any special occasion really, take a moment to yourself before submerging yourself in the festivities. Find a routine to ground and empower yourself. A mantra that suits you and your needs may be beneficial (e.g., “I am strong, I am loved, I am beautiful, and I am brave” or “I am my own person with my own values, I am valid”). Regardless of how you choose to practice self-acceptance, we urge you to give yourself grace when you feel as though you’ve made a mistake, remind yourself to not compare yourself to others, and remember that negative thoughts and feelings will pass. It is hard to not compare ourselves to one another nowadays, but sincere happiness cannot be achieved without being true to yourself.
